About this print
The freedom of a day on the water, distilled into blue and white. Hans Hillmann's Kieler Woche 1964 poster uses a narrow sail and a broad field of colour to suggest sailing without describing every detail. Its spare geometry gives a room a fresh, assured focal point.
The design reduces the regatta subject to a few precise relationships: light against dark, a slender triangle against a broad rectangle, and small type beneath a large area of colour. The result is spare but far from empty, with the sail's position giving the whole image its tension.
It works particularly well in a study or a room with simple, architectural furniture. Blue textiles or a view of the sky can connect with the palette, while a white or natural frame keeps the composition light. It is a coastal reference expressed through graphic design rather than scenery.
