For a room with a sense of humour and a taste for the unexpected. Banksy's Dismaland poster greets you with a huge yellow smile, then unsettles it with a sideways tilt and dark, old-fashioned lettering. The cheerful first impression is only the beginning of the joke.
The design relates to Banksy's 2015 Dismaland project, a deliberately uneasy take on the amusement park. That tension between a promise of fun and something less reassuring is visible in the poster itself. A familiar symbol becomes strange through a small change in its presentation.
The spare cream background gives the yellow plenty of presence. Try it in a study, hallway or gallery wall with black-and-white photography, where its humour can interrupt a more serious arrangement. It is an expressive choice for someone who likes their art to reward a second look.
