About this print
Make a little room for the unexpected. An oversized orange bowler hat takes the leading role in this Modiano poster, hiding the face while hands work below. Deep blue lettering and a sharply cropped viewpoint give the everyday scene an intriguing, almost abstract presence.
The design finds character in what it leaves out. A hat, cigarette and hands tell the story without a visible expression, while the repeated curves of the brim soften the strong diagonal lines. Orange fills the image with warmth and makes the dark blue feel even richer.
It would bring a distinctive accent to a study or an eclectic living room. Pair it with walnut, navy or warm cream, and leave enough space for the oversized hat to read clearly. The appeal is in the vintage graphic composition and its clever use of a familiar everyday gesture.
